Valencia, located on the Mediterranean coast, with an extensive beach with warm and calm waters, historic buildings and the magnificent City of Arts and Sciences.
For us, Valencia was a pleasant surprise. We weren’t expecting so much diversity and such a pleasant city to walk around, even in July. It is a city with a huge green space, many miles of beach, hot water and huge sand, wide avenues in the newer part and historic buildings in the oldest part.
Itinerary for 3 days in Valencia
Day 1- Túria Gardens and City of Arts and Sciences
The Túria Gardens is an urban park that accompanies the city. This was built on the old bed of the River Túria, diverted out of the city, in order to avoid the floods that were recurrent.
The space is magnificent and huge. In it, you will find several playgrounds, lots of shade, routes to be covered by bicycle, fairs, and sports fields among other spaces. It is undoubtedly a space that improves the quality of life of its inhabitants and visitors.
We start our day at Pont de Les Flors, next to the Alameda metro station. We continue towards the mouth of the old river and travel several miles inside the bed of the old river, observing the immensity of this urban park.
At the end we find the City of Arts and Sciences, an admirable place with buildings with modernist lines. The various buildings there are:
- A Planetarium;
- Palace of Arts;
- The huge science Museum;
- L’agora: Multipurpose space;
- Umbracle: Garden with several species;
- Ocanogràphic: A huge aquarium representing various habitats;
This is my favourite space in the city of Valencia and is a must-see during your visit. With it will fill a day.
We chose to enter the various spaces where possible, but we only visited Oceanogràphic. It is one of the largest oceanariums in Europe and has a tunnel inside an aquarium where several sharks live.
We really want to visit the other spaces, such as the Science Museum.
Dia 2- Marina and Beach
Since we visited Valencia during the summer, we decided to enjoy the beach for at least one day. In this way, we booked a tour of the city using the tourist buses that took us to some of the main tourist attractions in the city. There are two routes, one passing by the marina and the beach.
Valencia’s beach is extensive, with huge sand. The sea is calm, shallow and warm. It is an ideal beach to enjoy the Mediterranean.
Day 3- Historic Center of Valencia
Our visit to the historic centre started at the Porta de Serrans towards the North Train Station. The distance is not very long and depending on the number of stops and visits, one day is more than enough to walk through these historic streets full of very curious corners.
The Porta or Torres de Serrans were part of the city walls and were the gateways to this area. Passing through the doors, we enter an area of narrower streets and head towards Praça de la Mare de Déu, where a small fountain and several churches are located.
On one side we find the Basilica de la Mare dels Desamparats and on its back, we enter the enormous Valencia Cathedral.
After walking through Plaza de la Reina, and following Calle de Sant Vicont Màrtir, we find a very curious square with a round shape. Named Plaça Redona, it is currently a place with stalls selling traditional items and small bars and restaurants.
Then we visit the Central Market of Valencia where we find a cosy and completely picturesque atmosphere. The place was full of fresh products aimed at everyone and not just residents.
After visiting the Central Market, we head towards the plaza de L’Ajuntament. Here the streets are now wider and the buildings follow a well-crafted design, formerly inhabited by the wealthiest and inspired by Paris.
Before heading to the North Station, we took a small detour to the Mercat de Colón, which nowadays has several restaurants and bars.
The North Station is very beautiful and quite old. There are several shops and also renovated rooms where you can see spectacular tile panels.
In addition to these points, obviously there is still much to visit in Valencia and the surrounding area. Such as:

How to arrive in Valencia?
Valencia has an international airport where several flights from all over europe. It is not far from the city and has a metro line that takes about 30 minutes to the city center. In addition to the airport, Valencia can be reached via various highways and also by boat. The port of Valencia has several routes, essentially with the islands of Ibiza and Mallorca.
How to get around in Valencia?
Valencia is a flat city with many bike paths and several metro lines (underground and outside). Depending on what you want, you can get around Valencia very easily using rented bikes or electric scooters. There are several companies operating in the city. The other way is the metro or the various buses.
How many days to visit Valencia?
It all depends on what you want to see. For the museums of the City of Arts and Sciences, I suggest one day. For Oceanographic it can be half a day, but without seeing all the shows. A day for the historic city centre and if you go during the summer, reserve a day to enjoy the warm waters of the Mediterranean.

Valencia it’s Safe?
My experience has told me yes. Obviously being a big city and with a lot of tourists, you always have to be careful. The trips we make through the streets, even at night, were relaxed and we didn’t feel any type of more hostile environment.
