Mallorca is a fantastic summer destination, whether you want to go with friends or family or just explore all the small beaches and the surrounding nature.

The island of Mallorca is quite large, accessible by plane from anywhere in Europe, or by boat from Spain or the surrounding islands. Arriving is easy, leaving without liking it is the hardest. In this post, we are going to summarize our one-week stay and we are going to leave some tips on how you can get to and discover the island of Mallorca.

How Arrive

The primary way to get to Mallorca is without a doubt via its airport. Another way to get there is via the port, on cruises or by boat from Valencia or Barcelona.

At its airport, there is a significant presence of Low-Cost flights and regular flights from all Europe.

Moving around in Mallorca

Renting a car in Mallorca is the best option to get to know the island. On our trip, we still planned to spend a few days without the car to just enjoy the area where we were staying, but we ended up realizing that afterwards, we would spend a lot of time on public buses or money on a private transfer to the airport.

However, if you are just going to stay in the city of Palma de Mallorca, you won’t even need a car, as there is a good public transport network.

Car hire in Palma is easy and most companies are represented at the airport. We ended up renting a car from OK Rent-a-car and we have nothing to complain about. Driving and parking on the island are also not difficult as there is only one big city, which is Palma de Mallorca.

Here to stay in Mallorca

We are suspicious when telling you where to stay in Mallorca. We love our accommodation. The surrounding area was also beautiful and had very calm beaches.

Mallorca is essentially divided into two zones that depend a lot on the purpose of the trip. If you want to have fun with friends and enjoy the nightlife in Palma and the clubs and bars, you should stay in the Magaluf area, where there are many bars and clubs. Palma de Mallorca, the capital, also has a very lively nightlife.

The rest of the island is quieter and ideal for a family holiday. You can choose to stay in the Santanyí area because it is a central area to discover the east coast, rich in very beautiful coves. The west zone is more mountainous and has small villages where you can stay and experience a different perspective of the island.

Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is the capital and is a beautiful city with some points of interest. Due to its size, it won’t take many days to visit the most touristic areas of the city.

We recommend that you don’t miss visiting the great Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca, which overlooks the port and offers a beautiful view of the Mediterranean. The cathedral is huge and surprises even those who are looking at it from the outside.

In the area of the Cathedral, you will find the streets of the historic centre of Palma. The streets are narrow and for those who enjoy this type of walk, it will not disappoint.

Another popular destination in Palma de Mallorca is Bellver Castle. We didn’t get to visit it, but from what I can see from the photos, it’s a circular building, a curious aspect of this type of building.

If you can, you can also go by historic train to Soller. The line is historic and the train is part of the journey to the past, given its appearance from the beginning of the 20th century. In Soller, you can extend the trip to Port de Soller, this time by a historic tram.

Mallorca is essentially a beach destination. But the size of the island and its popularity have made it a destination with many attractions that make it very easy to occupy your days. From sailing trips through the small coves to visits to caves in the most mountainous area of the island, there is plenty to choose from.
