The Algarve is a beach destination and if you are with contact to the Ria Formosa is also perfect for hiking. In one of the most tourist areas and internationally recognized due to its tourist resorts and golf courses are the beaches of Garrão and Ancão, now connected to the beach of Quinta do Lago and the beach of Faro through a wooden walkway.
Here, there are several routes, totaling almost 7 km, allowing you to go through the final part of the Ria Formosa (the salt lake), next to the golf courses of the resort of Quinta do Lago. Right after the lake is the Ancão Beach and its dunes that connect with Garrão Beach ending at the cliffs, already close to Vale de Lobo beach. On the way we passed the trails of São Lourenço in Ludo area and trails of Quinta do Lago.

Ancão beach is located at the end of the Ria Formosa lagoon system, still in the area of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, next to the famous Quinta do Lago beach, known for its wooden pedestrian bridge that crosses the Ria Formosa.
Behind is what remains of the pine forest that dotted the cliffs. Between the parking lot and the beach there is a long stretch of dune cord, which protects the entire area from the extreme weather. This is protected and full of plants.
The Ancão beach has three restaurants, located on wooden stakes and on the cliffs where meals are served and some sunsets parties are held. It´s also has all kinds of support existing on concessioned and supervised beaches.

The Garrão beach is the continuation of the Ancão beach, ending when the highest cliffs start. The garrão beach thus begins in an area with dunes full of plants and continues after a lower cliff. In these two areas, two small lagoons are formed, the largest of which is the Dunas Douradas Lagoon. It is a wetland of fresh water and of special importance for waterfowl, providing visitors with their observation while feeding, resting or nesting.

A new walkway was recently built in order to discipline an existing trail that connects Garrão beach to Ludo area, near Faro Beach and the international airport. The new walkway allows to contemplate the entire area of dunes and the Ria Formosa in order to minimize the environmental impact. There are also areas for rest, rest and contemplation of the surrounding environment.
