The palace is located at the top of the Sintra mountain, where the green area around it shines with its colors. It represents one of the main expressions of architectural romanticism throughout the world in the 19th century and is also one of the first palaces to be built in Europe in this style.

{fa-map-marker } The palace and the park
Both the palace and the surrounding park are breathtaking. The palace, due to its bright colors, awakens emotions and when combined with the fog, very characteristic of the microclimate of the Sintra, it raises the imagination even more and makes visitors lose themselves in its charms. The garden, with is dense vegetation makes the eyes get lost and discover an aspect with every step we take.
The palace was built on the ruins of an old monastery by D. Fernando II appealing to the medieval imagination, with watchtowers, an access tunnel and even a drawbridge. It was also the summer residence of several monarchs and it was in the Pena Palace that Queen D. Amélia received the news of the Proclamation of the Republic, on October 5, 1910, from which she left to embark to Gibraltar.
The interior of the palace can be visited and is furnished in such a way that the visitor can travel back in time.
As for the garden, it has 200 hectares and constitutes the so-called Pena Park. It has several routes where there are several buildings, such as lakes, caves, bridges, fountains and a great biodiversity of plants and trees.
For those who are near the Moorish Castle, there is a direct entrance to the Pena Park, as the garden reaches the castle.
