Barril Beach is in Pedras D’el Rei, a tourist resort very close to Santa Luzia, a village located near Tavira in Algarve, Portugal. The sandy branch of Barril Beach is situated in an area where the Ria Formosa, the saltwater lagoon is not very wide, so the crossing of the deepest part of the estuary is done by a bridge. However, the walk to the beach takes about 20 to 25 minutes.

How to go to the Beach
To shorten this distance, the visitor can board a small train located next to the crosswalk, which is free for residents of the tourist resort but paid for who is not a resident. The speed of the tiny train does not considerably shorten the time it takes to make the journey on foot, but at least you don’t need to walk.
Barril Beach was the site of a tuna fishing community and the abandoned houses are converted into shops and restaurants that open during the summer. The anchors of the old fishing fleet were placed in the sand dunes and served as a brand image of the beach.
When you reach the beach, if you give a walk to the left side you will arrive at Terra Estreita Beach, which is the calmest, since to get there you need to take the boat in Santa Luzia. If you continue the walk you will arrive at Tavira Island Beach.
The sea is usually calm and also usually not so deep. At low tide, it is necessary to walk in the water so that you can reach a relative depth for a good dive. It is therefore an ideal beach for the youngest.
